Working in the Office/Field vs. Working at Home
I've been itching to write a blog about this topic and I
know most of you by reading the title has concluded a personal preference of
choice, and now I will be sharing my thoughts of which is the best and what is not,
the advantages and disadvantages and also a concluding statement in the last
part of the blog.
We all know that working in the office is an everyday
struggle for most of us, especially if we lack passion, inspiration and
motivation. We spent eight hours or more for the daily living, same routine
everyday as if we are programmed to do it and the hardest part is, we usually
forgot to make a life.
WORKING IN OFFICE / FIELD
Disadvantage(s)
So let's talk about the downside of working in the office,
or may we say working outside our comfortable homes.
1. Eats a lot of our precious time - Aside from our skills
and labor that our employer pays us, it's our precious time we give to them. We
dedicate a large chunk of our time to work for somebody, it's true that we are
not doing it for free and we have our salaries in return. But we are exhausting
a precious resources that cannot be reproduced again. To elaborate more further
let us say, you have this deadline in the end of the week which cannot be
avoided, and at the same time you have this family event that will also takes
place in the same week, with the pressure to hit the deadline on time, you'll
be sacrificing the family event and will fail to make a life. This scenario
does not apply to everybody but a relatable scenario if you don't have the time
freedom of your own.
2. Eats a lot of our
energy - We invest a lot of energy to work, and left out with nothing when we
returned home. The only time we regain our energy back is resting and sleeping
when we got home, instead of doing extra recreational activities, all you just
want to do is hit the bed and sleep.
3. Checklist for the things you need - Imagine you need to
make an inventory checklist before you go to work; headsets, planner, grooming
kits, and etc. One forgotten item may ruin your day at the office.
4. Accumulate more expenses - If you're not one of those budget wizards,
spending a lot of money from snacks, lunch outs and afternoon mid-break coffee.
Stacking all of that expenses you may be spending more than your day paying job
and this scenario happens to lot of people.
5. Obstacle in creativity - One of the main factor that
affects the creativity of a person is based on how much comfortable the place
he/she is working. Typical workstations or offices are designed and thought of
by the employer, I mean how can you work efficiently to a place that not suits
your style and your personality, it blocks the creativity within you. Some
refer to work alone or separated with co-workers while others usually want social
interactions.
Advantage(s)
There's nothing more to put the advantages of working in the
office / field but I will layout the points from my personal perspective:
1.) Free energy consumption - Admit it, we usually take the
opportunity to use excessive energy consumption in the office. Utilities we
don't usually committed to save.
2.) Actual place of experience -I'm pointing out the real world
where you deal with co-workers personally, departments after departments. Exposure
to the standard operating procedures planned out by the company which many
employers are taking a plus.
3.) Chances for opportunity- This may not relate to all but
you can have different chances to opportunity, why? because you're exposed in
the outside world. Chances may pop up when you are on way to the office and
also leaving the office, plenty of chances may occurred to your clients and
co-workers. My uncle once said "Being outgoing may attract numerous
opportunities" and I believe from his word of wisdom.
WORKING AT HOME
Ok, things are now getting interesting. I mean who wants to
have this thing to be part of his/her lifestyle? I bet majority of you lads
will agree why working at home is the best option and the most ideal situation
you wanted to be in.
Disadvantage(s)
Let's talk about the disadvantages first, as our
grandmother's say "Leave the best for dessert";
1.) Adjustments - If you're flexible enough, this will not
be hard for you but if not you'll be struggling at first. Imagine that you will
turn your house into a comfortable place for you to work. If you have already a
family you should have a separate room where you can work continuously without
any distraction. Note that both single and family person will work in this
option.
2.) Assets and Utilities - Unlike working in the office, all
the things you need are already in there; working desk, computers, office
supplies, printer/copiers, fax machines and etc. While starting at home, there
is no one will provide these assets and utilities but you.
Advantage(s)
For this one, I will not list the advantages, but I will put
it one criteria to summarized the benefits and perks on choosing this option;
1.) Freedom - Working
remotely at home is never been this good, having this freedom from you
supervisors and managers, strictly monitoring and observing your performance at
work. There will be no dress coding, you can even work without your pants.
Freedom from tardiness, freedom from toxic people, freedom from environment,
freedom from being uncomfortable and the most important is freedom from time.
You have this large opportunity to appreciate life and make a life instead of just
making a living.
Conclusion
Given the ups and
down, and weighing different possibilities we have come to the conclusion. This
is just to give you an inspiration to make things differently whether you are
already working at home or still working outside your house. The thing is you
need to know what is best for you, you just need to try them both then you can
a make decision to stick with it or not. But the ability to save those precious
time and have a different perspective in life is the important key to
appreciate and celebrate life to the fullest.
